In real life it’s like that: everything dies, even the worst
McCarthyism died in one day. Will Woke follow suit?
As Louis Caron once said, in L'Emmitouflé:
Dans la vie c'est comme ça. Tout finit par finir, même le pire
(In real life, it’s like that: everything dies, even the worst).
… At times, instantly.
McCarthyism died in one day1:
At [the Army-McCarthy hearings] on June 9, 1954, McCarthy charged that one of Welch's [(the Army lawyer)] attorneys had ties to a Communist organization. …Welch responded with the immortal lines that ultimately ended McCarthy's career: "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness." When McCarthy tried to continue his attack, Welch angrily interrupted, "Let us not assassinate this lad further, senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency?"
Overnight, McCarthy's immense national popularity evaporated. Censured by his Senate colleagues, ostracized by his party, and ignored by the press, McCarthy died three years later, 48 years old and a broken man.
Will Woke follow suit? How will it transpire? Will Ibram Kendi contradict himself to ridicule2? Will people stop paying Robin DiAngelo $15K a lecture to hear her disparage capitalism? Will enough honest African-American voices say CRT-style DEI is bullshit and that defunding the police is a bad idea? Will our very own Supreme Leaders finally wise up and do the only honest thing they can do after flushing our university down the toilet and step down?3 Predictions are hard, especially about the future. But it’s coming.
As one of the ex-Soviet dissidents said one day,
The Soviet Union popped like a dirty soap bubble.
Will we see any soap? …Or just the dirt? Lots of it.

He did so again in the short time that passed between writing and publishing this post, which gives us hope.
Nah, this one is probably not going to happen.
Sure hope so!
