Here at the Flickering Beacon we believe that merciless mockery is the best policy, but we also remember to praise when praise is due. It does not happen very often, but every once in a while something makes us think that there may be some hope after all.
Our very own student newspaper, lovingly dubbed by us Hamass Media, actually showed decency last week and published a correction to a factual error they had made about the October 7 massacre. This in itself already puts them above and beyond our great Leaders, whose favorite strategy is deny, deflect, disengage.
But they didn’t stop there! For the past couple of weeks they have been publishing a bunch of opinion articles representing BOTH SIDES. But, like for real, including the side they most likely disagree with.
Despite our old age and cynicism, we are impressed. There was even a little tear running down our cheeks, or maybe it was just the crappy weather, who knows. In any case - we are proud of you, kiddos. You proved to have a much better moral compass than some of your professors. Please don’t let those professors ruin your pursuit of truth and your openness to a wide variety of opinions. We may not agree with everything you write, but we promise to continue to fight for your right to write it (barring calls for intifada. We still have our boundaries).
Perhaps cancellation finally coming for the cancellers has for them been an epiphany?
Like a less severe case of a police defunder becoming a police defender upon the experience of a mugging. Either way it’s a great sign.
