We Salute Judith Butler
And we find some of her UMass Boston disciples repugnant
We thank Judith Butler wholeheartedly for remaining who we always thought she was: a mistaken scientist, the 1998 Bad Writing Competition winner, the vessel that brought the Old World post-modern witchcraft to our shores, and a decent human being. This is her, coherent and consistent this time around, in London Review of Books, twelve days after the 10/7 pogrom:
I … condemn without qualification the violence committed by Hamas. This was a terrifying and revolting massacre. That was my primary reaction, and it endures…
Incidentally, there is no daylight between Butler and the Palestinian Authority who’ve just said that “[t]he policies and actions of Hamas do not represent the Palestinian people.”
…But there are other reactions as well.
And indeed, one of Butler’s UMass Boston’s disciples, Prof. Khayke Scottish, disagrees:
Khayke is determined to push decolonization forward “by any means necessary.” Even if it involves following this “sound” advice. We are disgusted. The Devil agrees with us:
Men’s wretchedness in soothe
I so deplore,
Not even I would plague
the sorry creatures more.
(Faust 25)
To make sure, he refers to both Hamas and Khayke Scottish.
Thank you for this.
