Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who's the Fairest of Them All?
We congratulate UMass Boston's Chancellor for being the only white man to make it to the list of 100 influential men of color.
We are honored to hear that UMass Boston’s Chancellor, Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, is an avid reader of the Flickering Beacon. Otherwise, how would you explain the fact that a mere few months after we published our “12-step guide to become an accomplished white savior”, where step 10 said:
If you are accused of white saviorism, use your Latin-American birth place to secure a spot for your pale face on a POC list. Never mind you yourself once said that Latino is not a race and that Latinos come in all races.
…he went and got himself named one of Boston’s 100 most influential men of color?
We are glad to be of service, Chancellor. You finally earned your place among other Latinos of color such as Giselle Bündchen, Cameron Diaz and your countryman Lionel Messi, to name a few.
In the article linked above, the Chancellor said that:
I congratulate each of the honorees and applaud this well-deserved public recognition for men of color in and their incredible contributions to our city.
We agree wholeheartedly and join the Chancellor in congratulating the other men of non-pinkish color who made the list1.
The list contains luminaries such as Prophet Kendi (see also) and the entire city of Boston, but that’s a whole different story.
