This is a part of the “Decolonizing” series. See here, here, here, here, here, and here for previous takes.
Yes, they are definitely reading our Flickering Beacon, and they are learning. Remember the language of the first ads? “Decolonizing teaching-the-whole-person”, “dualism conflict”, “speakers describes”. Their English got better. And yet…
What is this decoloniality?
The '-iality' ending normally creates a new noun from an existing one; it suggests a quality, relationship, concept, or methodology. Consider:
triviality : information and data that are considered to be of little value
triality : a relationship among three vector spaces
bestiality : sexual activity between humans and non-human animals
pictoriality : a [photographic] style in which the photographer has somehow manipulated what would otherwise be a straightforward photograph
So, is decoloniality :
a perpetual state of being decolonized, with the existence of the to-be-decolonized coloniality being supported by zero evidence,
a relationship between the decolonizers, the rest of the (bewildered) population, and the truth,
an act of decolonizing (everything, including snails1),
or a method of bringing to life an alternative reality where Enlightenment didn’t happen?
They never explained. Precision of language is White Supremacy.
CIT’s poor and obscure “decolonized” English is a glimpse into what a decolonized education is, in general. That’s right, illiteracy.
