You cannot apply for citizenship while on a student visa. Student visas do not grant permanent residency. And in any case, you have to be a legal permanent resident for five years before you can even apply to become a citizen. If he is a citizen already, something wonky happened. I don't think he is a warrior either. I think he's a pragmatist who prefers our country to his, a living example that discretion is the greater part of valor.
But no discussion of the atrocities committed by Hamas, so he did keep to script.

I think he came to the US as a kid, at least that's what I understood from his speech. And yes, seems like a decent guy. The joke wasn't on him :) .
