How History is Repeating in Rome and at UMass Boston
Strange coincidences appear throughout history
"[A] favorite theory of mine [is] that no occurrence is sole and solitary, but is merely a repetition of a thing which has happened before, and perhaps often." - Mark Twain
Some say history is repeating itself. Empires rise and fall, universes are born and die, war is followed by peace and then more war, in an endless cycle. The more it changes, the more it stays the same.
And you know, there is something to it. See for yourself:
Octavian defeated Antony and Cleopatra’s forces in Alexandria on 1 August 30 BC…. After the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian (soon the first Roman emperor) was in a position to rule the entire Roman Republic.

Interestingly, a similar event recently happened here at UMass Boston. On February 1, 2024, the Provost announced with “mixed emotions” that Dr. Robin Côté, Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), has decided to step down and return the the faculty, effective Fall 2024.
Did we mention that he is the only dean who was not personally picked by our Supreme Leaders?
The following day, by complete coincidence, we got the following e-mail announcement:
“Save the Date,” Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., for the Inauguration of Marcelo Suárez-Orozco as Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Boston. Formal invitation to follow (Feb 2, 2024).
Did we mention that Marcelo Suárez-Orozco has already been our Chancellor (of color) for a whole 3.5 years?
Do we really celebrate his coronation inauguration, or the completion of his ideological takeover of our university and his becoming the absolute ruler of each and every aspect of our lives?
More on the coronation to follow.
