The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) just released its official Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Competencies. Moving ahead with the times, these new competencies provide a blueprint for infusing the themes of identity politics highly important medical and scientific terms such as “intersectionality,” “white privilege,” “microaggression” and “allyship” into medical education, thus advancing the field far and beyond. Furthermore, according to the president of the AAMC and the chair of the AAMC’s Council of Deans, science and politics are equally important as far as the curriculum is concerned: they said :
“We believe this topic deserves just as much attention from learners and educators at every stage of their careers as the latest scientific breakthroughs.”
Inspired by this move, Engineering schools decided to outdo the doctors and infused their curricula with so much DEI material that no time was left for science, mathematics, and engineering. Not a big deal: at the time of graduation, the future engineers showed zero skills acquired since high school, in an equitable manner. But they showed exceptional proficiency in intersectionality. As we said before - everyone can succeed given the right education!
Oh, yes, incidentally, a bridge collapsed this morning: investigation, still ongoing, already found a host of structural flaws due to faulty planning.
Commenting on the news, the UMB Associate Vice Provost for Equitable and Just Curriculum said:
We are devastated by the news of the bridge collapse. But never you mind: we are happy to announce that the racial makeup of the casualties was consistent with the national averages.
Equity always wins, sometimes in mysterious ways.
