UMass Boston Places Tampon Dispensers in Bathrooms for All Menstruators to Use
As a first step, the dispensers will be put in gender-neutral and men's bathrooms. Women's bathrooms to follow, if budget allows
Menstrual care inequality is a serious issue, so we heard. People with periods often do not have the money to afford high quality reproductive care products. Therefore, a new and exciting initiative at UMass Boston was launched last year in order to release free menstrual products to restrooms all across campus.
“All bleeders, menstruators and people with uteruses deserve free access to menstrual products because, of course, Aunt Flo showing up uninvited is a universal experience.” said Mx. Tiffany Bloodsworth (he/she/they) from the student government. “We plan to use Aunt Flow, a menstruator owned company. Due to budget constraints, the dispensers will first be placed where they are needed the most, i.e. in gender neutral and men’s restrooms. But we plan to expand the initiative in the future”.
Well, a promise made is a promise kept. Following the initial success of the project, the university now plans to expand the access to women’s bathrooms as well, if budget allows.
Mx. Bloodsworth said: “It is a well established scientific facts that people of all genders menstruate, not only men and non-binary individuals. Therefore, we plan to offer our services to several women’s bathrooms across campus. However, while it is very important to provide menstrual care to all individuals who bleed, the expansion is contingent on our budget and campus stakeholders who may want to support the campaign. In the mean time, individuals with uteruses who identify as women can access these products in gender neutral bathrooms”.
I just can't. Some woman (or a group) needs to sue them. Immediately. Women are not being equally accommodated. That is against the law. Really, your place of employment is insufferable.
