Whether you think “we” won or lost the general elections (we here at the Flickering Beacon weren’t crazy about any of the two presidential candidates), we did lose one important ballot fight:
On November 5, as many as 58.9% of Massachusetts voters voted “yes” to ballot question 2, eliminating the need for the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) as a graduation requirement. In other words, it is no longer necessary to know that π is about 3 to project as an educated person:
Isn’t it remarkable that on the same ballot, we were asked to weigh on the merits of psychedelic mushrooms… as if pot wasn’t enough. Sounds like a Social Justice Warrior dream of an easy to control populace: stoned, delusional, and deprived of any mathematical logic. Makes one want to reread Brave New World. Oh wait, MCAS is gone. We can’t read properly either.
Incidentally, in the end, Massachusetts rejected the ‘shrooms… this time around.
